What to Pack to Wear for a Bed & Breakfast Inn Trip

Updated: Feb 14

You can, of course, wear whatever you wish when you stay at a Bed & Breakfast Inn, but when you are staying in a beautiful historic home/property, why not play "Duke & Duchess for a Day" by dressing up a little to feel oh-so-romantic, to better match your stately surroundings, and to also show a little respect for the inn owner who is working hard to give you an amazingly beautiful travel and lodging experience!

Here's an example below of outfits I'd pack today to stay at an inn like the beautiful Doryman's Inn in Newport Beach, CA where we actually did stay years ago, and I took these photos then. The dresses or jumpsuit I show below will take you from daytime to dinner, and the robe and slippers are beautifully-comfy to lounge around your room in. You could wear the lovely caftan on the patio, in the front lobby sitting room, or even to breakfast!

PLEASE NOTE: I should add here that it's not always necessary to buy new clothes for every inn getaway trip nor am I advocating that here if you already have appropriate things in your closet you could wear, because you're already paying for the getaway trip, so don't go into debt just to dress up for your trip! I personally don't buy new outfits every time we stay at an inn -- I buy things I like throughout the year that will work both in my everyday life and on an inn getaway/vacation, and I don't debt ever to buy clothes/build my wardrobe as I think that's foolish. Floral knit dresses and tops are one "comfy-yet-a-bit-dressed up" example I can wear to an inn, and also wear everyday too. Take a look in your closet and see what you already have that might work, and then go shopping if you feel you just don't have the right things.

Here are some ideas/examples of what to pack and wear on a B&B getaway:

Floral Maxi Dress

Jumpsuit

Shawl day

Shawl evening

Lace tank

Lace panties

Black tote day

Black clutch evening

Black sandals day

Black sandals evening

Earrings

Necklace

Glasses

Floral Robe

Caftan

Thongs

Pretty Slippers

And I might even pack a pretty hat!

Oh, and of course, bubblebath!

(I don't usually pack a swimsuit, as most inns don't have a pool, but ask if they do when you make your reservation or check the inn website on their amenities page.)

Duchess for a Day!

Isn't that the prettiest sink you've every seen? The faucet is a bird.

Let's not forget the guys! What my dapper-casual hubby Steve would pack for an inn trip ideas are below:

Khaki pants

Polo shirt

Jacket

Hat

Loafers

Money clip wallet

I hope you'll try a Bed & Breakfast Inn stay soon if you've never been to one as they are so enjoyable, not to mention the best stress-management tool on the planet!

Happy Inn Travels!
